			<description><![CDATA[ DD 7.11 learnt to rollerblade at a friend&#39;s house today. She ahd never done it before and was going well when I got there.

Apparently she told the other mother that her mother(ie me) said &quot;You can&#39;t learn to do new things without falling, so don&#39;t worry if I
fall.&quot; and off she went. (I had told her that when we went ice-skating...ie you have to let go of the edge and probably fall a few times to learn... and

could not convince DS to do track and field this summer. After a miserable year at school (according to DS), he really wants home time so he has said NO to any

			<description><![CDATA[ DD 8 is participating in her first organized team sport this spring.  She is playing on a local lacrosse team.  She&#39;d never touched a stick before signing
up and her father and I have no experience with it at all.  Around here at least  it doesn&#39;t seem to be a sport that they start until they are 7 or so. 
That worked well for us because it meant that there were a number of novices on the team and they teach them how to play from the ground up.  The teams cross

			<description><![CDATA[ DS 7.7 started in our town&#39;s recreational track and field program last week. It&#39;s the first year they have had it and since my good friend&#39;s
husband is the coach, we signed up.  The first practice went very well.  There are about 20 kids ranging from ages 7 to 11, girls and boys, from both sides of
town, which is kind of nice.  (Most of the other rec sports group kids into teams on their respective sides of the town, which is quite large).

			<description><![CDATA[ I&#39;m wondering if this is an Oregon thing, a west coast thing, or everywhere. At our pool they provide life jackets for all non-swimmers. They have a rack
of about 100 jackets I would guess.The jackets aren&#39;t required unless a non swimmer wants to go down the big water slide (still with an adult). But almost
all children under 6 or so wear them. We don&#39;t have an exclusively shallow water pool.The warm water pool has a large shallow section but also goes to 4ft.

			<description><![CDATA[ Issy's really into gymnastics right now and it's what she wants to do. So instead of plunking her into the first gym we found, we're trying 3. I cannot believe the differences!<br><br>Gym 1: There were about 9 girls and they were in two groups with a coach to each group. The coaches were youngish and bubbly. The class was about 10 minutes of stretching and then 40 minutes of obstacle coursing in various parts of the gym. So they had a beam, vault, bar obstacle course, then a multiple bar... ]]></description>
